After months of teasing, Julia Fox's debut single, "Down the Drain" has finally arrived. The song shares its name with Fox's New York Times bestselling memoir, which details her life experience, starting as a young girl and wrapping up shortly after her highly publicized relationship with rapper Kanye West.
Fox first previewed "Down the Drain" in February at Charli XCX's packed Boiler Room set. Pop music fans, especially those who "stan" XCX, reacted excitedly. Posts deemed Fox "mother" and a potential future pop star.
She also performed the track before at a New York City launch event for her memoir. Fans captured the performance and shared it on social media.

The mixed and mastered "Down the Drain" is a warpier, spaceship-like version of Fox's live performance. The choruses remain robotic, with Fox droning on and repeating "I'm a bitch/I'm a girl/I'm a woman/I'm a whore" for most of the track, occasionally swapping "woman" for "mother." Fox is a mother to one son, Valentino.
On "Down the Drain," Fox leans into femininity as well as her own neuroticism, singing "Come get lost inside my brain/I promise that you'll go insane." At the same time, she promises that she's "sweet like sugar cane."
"I'm a menace not a muse/the baddest f-ing drug that you'll ever use," she chides. Fox initially shot to internet virality when she referred to herself as Josh Safdie's muse in Uncut Gems. In the film, she plays opposite Adam Sandler's Howie as his loyal girlfriend.
"Come with me, come down the drain," she asks of the listener, drawing them in like Alice in Wonderland.
"Destiny, it's yours to choose/Come with me, you'll never lose," she further taunts, promising to drag the other party into her dark and mysterious world.
She vocalizes a series of cooing "Whore, whore, whore"s above persistent keys and a thumping drum in one post-chorus before a later, similar repetition of "Lose, lose, lose."
Fox is credited as both the main artist and composer on the track. Ben Draghi produced the song. Draghi is a French director, videographer and music composer. He's worked for artists like Dove Cameron and Zendaya as well as companies such as Victoria's Secret and Nike. Now, his impressive resume includes Fox's "Down the Drain."
Fox's Spotify artist bio simply reads: "I'm a bitch I'm a girl I'm a mother I'm a whore."
The multi-hyphenate artist has not indicated whether she plans to release any more songs, but did tell Variety that she saw never herself "being in movies or doing anything I'm doing ... I just go wherever the wind blows."
