The unlikely collaboration between pop star Ed Sheeran and metal band Cradle of Filth may still see the light of day.

That's according to Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth. The track was originally scheduled to come out in the summer of 2023, but now it looks like it will be a bonus track on a special edition of the band's next album.

"We've already done our track with Ed Sheeran, although that'll be probably coming out on the special edition of the new album," Dani Filth said in an interview with Heavy, via Metal Injection. "But I can't really talk much more about that, all legalities and what have you. We should be dropping a new single, actually, around the time of the Australian tour [in September], maybe a little bit later... [The single] should be [coming out] probably about the same time with the album being dropped around March next year."

"The album we started last July, and our record company was, like, 'Why are you taking so long?' It's like, 'Well, because we're on tour.' We started the album [and then] we literally went off on tour for two months. So, yeah, we've been very, very busy."

Back in December 2022, Dani Filth shared a photo of him having a meal with Sheeran and producer Scott Atkins along with the caption, "A little over a week ago I was having lunch with the unlikely lads, having just done something fun."

In an interview on the YouTube channel, Pelna Kultruka, Dani Filth gave further insight into the collaboration and the band's forthcoming album.

"There's a blast beat in it," he explained. "I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people, the album. But it doesn't necessarily mean the album is commercial. It's a very heavy record. We just upped the game as a band. We moved one step further toward the future from our previous record."

The metal shouter added that "people have heard the collaboration and "loved it." He went on to say it is "what you would imagine" from both acts.

As for the track's delay, Dani Filth explained that the band is working on Sheeran's timetable.

"Obviously, he's one of the biggest artists in the world, and we have to abide by his rules because... He's a lovely guy - don't get me wrong - but his management, obviously, have his vested interest at heart.

"I think this year he's taking a complete year off. And obviously we want him in the video, so if that's gonna happen, we have to release that single with him on next year."
