Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, née Beaulieu, tied the knot after seven years of dating, but the King of Rock and Roll was found crying before the ceremony.
The pair wed during an intimate Las Vegas ceremony after Priscilla's parents allowed her to move to Elvis' Graceland estate in Memphis on the condition that they would eventually marry. However, there were speculations that the late rocker never wanted to tie the knot with anyone, and his staff saw his heartbreak before his big day with Priscilla.
In the book Down at the End of Lonely Street: The Life and Death of Elvis Presley by Peter Harry Brown and Pat H. Broeske, Elvis' housekeeper and cook, Alberta Holman, opened up about seeing him crying about his upcoming wedding.
Holman reportedly asked Elvis why he did not call off the wedding instead if it was causing him pain. The "A Little Less Conversation" singer gave her a heartbreaking five-word response: "I don't have a choice."
According to Express UK, Priscilla was not yet pregnant at the time as they agreed not to have a pre-marital s--. Thus, rumors about the businesswoman forcing him into marriage emerged.
The news outlet noted that the Love Is Forever star threatened Elvis to expose shocking and damaging details of their relationship to the media, causing the singer to marry her without ifs and buts.
Still, Priscilla has dismissed the claims several times.
"I think the pressure was on somewhat. We'd been together six years, the relationship was going well. The suggestion I think came from Colonel Parker (Elvis' manager) 'Either you should get married or go on. If you're not getting married, then what are you doing?'" she told Barbara Walters.
Priscilla was only 14 when Elvis met her in 1959. Their age gap became a controversial part of their relationship, but they did not let it affect their relationship.
Nine months after their wedding, they welcomed their only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
However, Elvis and Priscilla called it quits following her affair with karate teacher Mike Stone amid the singer's own infidelity issues.
"He wasn't faithful. Not that he had someone special, but when you're in the entertainment business, there is always that. And I tried to turn my back to that, but I just didn't want to share him. Simple as that," Priscilla told Sunday Night.
After finalizing their divorce, Priscilla received $1.7 million in the divorce settlement, along with $8,000 a month for 10 years.
