Charli XCX has confirmed she wrote new music for Charli XCX earlier this year, before the "Toxic" singer dismissed her as "random."
The "Von Dutch" singer confirmed on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live that the media reports claiming she had been working on new music for a potential Spears album drop were true. However, Spears responded to the news in January, shutting down any potential speculation that she would be releasing new songs, stating that she did not have "random" artists working for her.
"So... yes. But it leaked to the press, Britney then did this post where she was like, 'I don't have random people write for me.' I was like, 'Oh, okay. Go off,'" Charli XCX laughed.
Spears slammed the chatter that she was preparing a new album, insisting that she will never return to the music industry and is not having "random people," referring to Charli XCX, write songs for her.
"Just so we're clear, most of the news is trash," Spears wrote on Instagram following the report. "They keep saying I'm turning to random people to do a new album ... I will never return to the music industry !!!"
Cohen and the "Boom Clap" songstress went on to speculate that the Grammy-winner's team may have been assembling a team of writers to create something that would pique Spears' interest in the case that she did approve of a post-conservatorship LP.
"So I don't know that she was a part of the process but maybe her team were running before they could walk. Maybe Britney probably has a load of other projects that she's focusing on. So I did get asked but I don't know if it's, like, real."
XCX continued to spill that Spears' team was present while she wrote the potential new songs music in Malibu, before Cohen went in to suggest that "the team could guide you and be like 'Britney would like that.'"
"But she didn't record it so she obviously didn't," XCX jokingly quipped back, once again referring to herself as "random." She went on to say that she does hope Spears records the songs one day, revealing that it would be a "dream come true" to be featured on one of the "Toxic" singer's records.
XCX, who will be releasing her new album Brat in June, has frequently referred to Spears as an idol of hers. During a past visit to Watch What Happens Live, she labeled Spears' Blackout album as one of the greatest pop records of all time.
"You always write songs hoping that Britney's going to record them because she's the queen of pop."
The potential album would have been Spears' first in almost a decade. While she denies that she will be releasing any new songs, she does allegedly have more volumes of her bestselling memoir, The Woman In Me, ready for future release.
The "Womanizer" songstress has been in the news recently after a reported brawl at a California hotel turned physical. She and her rumored boyfriend allegedly had authorities called on them. However, Spears denies the reports and has revealed that she may have to get surgery for her injured foot.
