Nicki Minaj was mistaken for Cardi B when she arrived at the Met Gala.
As the Pink Friday 2 rapper arrived on the red carpet, a paparazzi called out "Cardi," mistaking her for her music industry rival.
It is unclear if Minaj heard the mistake, as she continued to pose for photos in the chaotic environment. While she was seemingly looking away from the photographer when he made the mistake, his voice was largely audible over other photographers, as is evidenced in the video.
"She'll get mad if I call her Cardi," the paparazzo said after he had been corrected.
Minaj was later vindicated when the photographer was recorded saying that "she did better than Cardi," comparing the dueling rappers' Met Gala looks. While the statement was meant to be a compliment to Minaj, Cardi B had not arrived yet.
The "Super Freaky Girl" singer sported a Marni-designed golden yellow mini-dress. Complete with 3D flowers spread throughout the look, the 31-year-old debuted blunt bangs that stood before an arched ponytail.
"See what happens when you're actually on THEME? Don't let jobless bottoms tell you that she didn't serve," a fan of Minaj posted, claiming that she was more aligned with the event's assigned theme than Cardi B.
"Lord Jesus , y'all are so obsessed with comparing these folks. Nicki hasn't been to [the Met Gala] in a while and instead of enjoying the moment and her look y'all immediately go to looking for ways to compare her to Cardi to be shady," another fan stated.
Fans were quick to bring up their years-long beef after the incident, saying: "I just know her heart skipped a beat when she heard Cardi's name. That PTSD made it all come back."
Their battle began in 2018 when Minaj had been throwing shade at Cardi B when she was unhappy that she was added to her Migos collaboration, "Motorsport." The "Bodak Yellow" songstress went on to release her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, not too long before Minaj dropped her Queen album.
Their feud erupted at a New York Fashion Week Party in September, when Cardi B threw her shoe at the "Starships" singer. She was photographed leaving with a massive bump on her forehead, while Minah stayed inside. Since then, they have had minimal interaction, Uproxx reports.
They did not encounter each other while inside the Met Gala. Cardi B arrived in a custom look by emerging fashion label Windowsen. Her lengthy gown occupied most of the courtyard, being accompanied by nine men who helped fluff out her dress while she directed them.
While both of the rappers turned heads at the fashion event, one of the most viral looks was debuted by a singer who was not even present at the event. AI-generated photos of Katy Perry went viral online, even tricking her mother into believing that she attended the event.
