The overall sales numbers remained low on the Billboard Digital Downloads chart for a second week even though competition for the top spot is heating up again.
Meghan Trainor lost a fraction of a percent for sales of her hit single "All About That Bass," bringing in 312,000 downloads and retaining the top spot for at least one more week (during her second reign at the no. 1 position). Taylor Swift has given up yet however. Her "Shake It Off" tumbled a long way in terms of sales last week and settled at no. 2 but now the song has seen a 10 percent increase and has pulled within 3,000 downloads of the no. 1 spot (309,000 downloads). Look out next week to see if Trainor can hold down the fort.
Following those two pop stars things get a little more bleak. "Bang Bang"—featuring Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj—again took the no. 3 spot but it dropped another 14 percent, to 147,000 downloads.
Fallout Boy debuted the first single from its forthcoming album and it entered fairly high at no. 4. "Centuries" sold 138,000 in its first attempt...let's see if it rises or falls next week. "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea suffers from the entrance of the new track, falling to no. 5 with 127,000 downloads sold.
Minaj and "Anaconda" creeped closer to Azalea, although still dropping sales. The single sold 126,000 downloads and took the no. 6 spot. Clean Bandit saw a drop in sales for the second week but once again moved up a spot despite the fact. The band's song, "Rather Be," went to no. 7 with 78,000 copies sold.
Last week was the first week in forever where a track with 80,000 downloads or less managed to make the Top 10. This week there are four entries that fit those qualifications (including Clean Bandit). Jason Aldean recovers from no. 11 to no. 8 with "Burnin' It Down," which sold 78,000 copies. Maroon 5 came up just short of Aldean with "Maps" but still have to be pleased with the tracks bounce back. Downloads for the single are up 161 percent this week. The last tune in the Top 10 is Grande's "Break Free," which falls from no. 6 while selling 74,000 downloads.
