Ice Spice has returned with a fun, trappy new single, "Gimmie a Light." The track's title speaks to passing someone a lighter while smoking weed together.
The Bronx native opens the track with an interpolation of Sean Paul's "Gimme the Light." Over a twangy beat, a chorus drones "Just gimme the light and pass the dro/Buss anotha bokkle a Moët/Gyal dem inna mi sight and I gots to know/Which one is gonna catch my flow." The song then immediately launches into Ice Spice's ferocious flow.
The track hits Ice Spice's typical fun and sexy beats, shout-outs to New York ("Bad bitch, came straight outta Fordham") while also including what has become a staple of her latest songs: a fecal mention.
Unsurprisingly, the rap star calls herself by an absurd moniker: "Her man callin' me baby (Grrah)/I'm Miss Poopie like I need a diaper (Grrah)." She previously assigned herself the same title on "Deli," rapping "I'm the sh--/I'm that bitch/I'm Mis Poopie."
She recently released a track called "Think U the Sh--?" in which she raps, "Think you the sh-- bitch?/You not even the fart," implying that she herself is the sh--. Ice Spice later took to X to explain that she does not have a poop obsession, but rather, she has a "SH--IN on b!tches fetish."
While the song is undeniably fun, the hard-hitting production from RiotUSA sometimes overpowers Ice's verses. Riot and Ice Spice have worked together throughout her entire career; he's produced each and every one of her releases from "Bully Freestyle" to today's "Gimmie A Light."
Ice Spice explodes on the chorus, rapping "Hotboxin' the V like, "Gimme a light" (Where it's at?)/Fat ass, so the pants fit tight (Yeah)/Take her man, I'm gettin' him right (Yeah)/Big knock like why would I fight? (Grrah)."
She continues to flex, asking "Who bigger than me? (Grrah)/Who littier too? (Grrah)/That's why I could take your boo (Damn)." Ice Spice straddles the line of confident and cocky meticulously, pulling in the listener with her irresistible charm.
In the music video, Ice Spice twerks as she hot boxes a pink Range Rover with a joint. The car's license plate reads "Y2K," a reference to Ice Spice's homonymous upcoming album. She takes pauses from lighting up in the expensive vehicle for some dance breaks. She grooves at a party, sporting a pair of sharp bangs. Wearing a "J'adore Dior" t-shirt, Ice Spice dances along while flexing a massive stash of cash.
"Gimmie a Light" is the second single off of Ice Spice's debut album, Y2K. The LP is set to arrive later this year.
