Kendrick Lamar's next album is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year (or next year, whenever he ends up finishing it), but he might be closer to finishing it than we think. HipHop-N-More reports that the lead single from the Compton rapper's new album will be dropping on Tuesday, Sept. 23, though there are conflicting reports as to what the actual title of the single is: it's either "(i) (love myself)," or simply "I."
The news of the single's (possible) title and release date came from the Interscope Records website PlayIGA, which reportedly posted details of the single prematurely before removing them soon afterwards. The post also included details about Gwen Stefani's upcoming single "Baby Don't Lie" and Fergie's upcoming single "L.A.LOVE (La La)."
Whenever this single does actually end up coming out (let's hope it's actually Tuesday, though), it would be Lamar's first solo single since "B***h, Don't Kill My Vibe," which was released back in March 2013 as the fourth single to his 2012 breakthrough album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. That album's other singles include "Poetic Justice" featuring Drake, "Backseat Freestyle," and "Swimming Pools (Drank)." Lamar's most recent single as a lead artist is "Memories Back Then" with T.I. and B.O.B. featuring Kris Stephens, which was released back in April 2013 and included on the compilation album Grand Hustle Presents: Hustle Gang.
Lamar has also done his fair share of guest verses this past year, including a remix of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive," Pusha T's "Nosetalgia," and Alicia Keys' "It's On Again."
