A woman was left partially paralyzed after a punk rock singer jumped into a crowd during his band's concert in New York. More recently, the fan finally spoke out weeks after the incident and gave an update on her health.

The concertgoer Bird Piché spoke to NBC News to give an insight into what happened on the evening of April 30, which later landed her in the hospital for a "catastrophic spinal cord injury."

"When you hear about these types of injuries, they're obviously very serious, so I didn't expect to have any recovery," she said of her condition as she remains in the hospital for treatment and recovery.

The woman remembered all the details of the concert, saying she was conscious the whole time and witnessed Trophy Eyes frontman John Floreani leaping backward into the audience in an attempt to crowd-surf.

"It was, like, his body and my neck... It was a crowd-surfing thing," the 24-year-old fan said.

In the interview, she mentioned that she has been following the band for years now and understands that these kinds of crowd interactions are very common at punk rock concerts.

However, she didn't expect what would happen to her.

"I have a long road ahead, but I'm very optimistic right now," Piché added.

Following her stay in the hospital, the woman said she was going to rehab, and doctors told her that although nothing was certain, they predicted that she would have a full recovery of everything.

Sharing more details about the state of her body today, Piché said, "So my legs, it's involuntary, have been kicking a lot lately. I can't control it."

She additionally mentioned that her arms, apart from hand dexterity, have nearly fully recovered, but her fingers lack full mobility.

As of this writing, the Australian punk rock band is still in the United States for their shows and has not canceled their upcoming gig in California.

The band has since spoken out about the incident by sharing Bird Piché's GoFundMe page and encouraging fans to donate to her recovery and rehabilitation. Her fundraising page has already amassed over $72,000 out of its $100,000 goal.

They further clarified that following the tragic accident, they promptly halted the show, and Floreani accompanied the fan to the hospital along with her family.

Regarding potential civil action by Piché's family, her parents opted not to comment when asked.
