Pink Floyd Reunion? Mason Would Do It but Says It's Unlikely Amid Waters-Gilmour Feud

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason said Tuesday (May 14) that he's up for a reunion show, but it's unlikely to happen considering the long-running feud between the band's other surviving members - singer/bassist Roger Waters and singer/guitarist David Gilmour.

When asked if he's game for a reunion performance, Mason told Reuters, "Oh yeah. I would. But I don't think you'll find very much support from Roger and David for working together."

Mason, 80, made the remarks while attending an event at Battersea Power Station in London to celebrate a reissue of the band's 1977 album, Animals, with the famous cover that features an inflatable pig floating over the power station.

The surviving members of the veteran British band haven't appeared together in nearly 20 years. Their last gig was at the Live 8 benefit concert at Hyde Park in London back in 2005.

Since then, keyboardist Rick Wright died in 2008 and original frontman Syd Barrett, who was ousted from the band in 1968 due to his mental illness likely brought on by drug use, died in 2006.

Mason told Reuters he hasn't brought up the idea of a possible reunion with the 80-year-old Waters or Gilmour, who is 78.

"It's more likely that I might do shows, like Roger came on stage in New York a couple of years ago," the drummer explained, referring to a New York gig with his band Saucerful of Secrets in 2022 when Waters made a surprise appearance, joining him on stage. "And that was great to do, and who knows? But I really, really don't think there's an appetite [for a reunion]," Mason added.

Waters split from Pink Floyd in 1985 after the band's success with such chart-topping albums as 1973's Dark Side of the Moon, 1975's Wish You Were Here and 1980's The Wall.

The band continued as a trio with Waters going solo, though he continues to perform Pink Floyd material live.

The feud between Waters and Gilmour has heated up in recent years with Waters' controversial opinions about the Russia-Ukraine war.

Last year, Waters released The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, a new take on the Pink Floyd classic album while Gilmour recently released the new song "The Piper's Call" from his new album Luck and Strange, set for a Sept. 6 release.
