Most artists use awards show performance spots to play their nominated hit or promote a current single, but Jelly Roll opted to take a different route at the ACM Awards Thursday (May 16) night.
Bathed in red lights and lasers, Jelly Roll performed a song that appears to be titled "Liar." He previously played the song last month at the Grand Ole Opry and the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, Calif., according to Setlist.fm.
In his ACM performance, Jelly Roll sang the lyrics, "Now I know, you ain't nothing but a liar / Yeah I walk right out that fire / Yeah you try to keep me down / Try to put me underground / I'm only going higher" over a bed of acoustic guitars.
The powers that be behind the official ACM Awards X account were impressed, posting, "We'd be lying if we said we didn't love that @JellyRoll615 performance" with a starry-eyed happy face emoji along with a clip of the performance.
Jelly Roll wasn't only at the ACMs for the performance. He's also nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Single of the Year for "Need a Favor," and Music Event of the Year for "Save Me" with Lainey Wilson, but he only won in the latter category.
The 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, were held at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Thursday (May 16) and aired on Amazon Prime Video and Twitch Live's Amazon Music channel.
