YG Marley, the son of Grammy-award winner Lauryn Hill, recently dropped hints that his mother may have new music in store. Hill has only ever released one album: 1998's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

The mother-son duo recently performed on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. They sang a stunning medley that combined Hill's "Ex-Factor" with Marley's "Survival" and "Praise Jah in the Moonlight." It was there that it became apparent that Hill may be gearing up to release new music.

"What about your mom's second album? We need a second album from her. Is she close to doing that?" asked a reporter to Marley after he and Hill recorded their performance.

He paused for a moment before saying, "I mean...music is on the way."

"For real this time? Don't get us excited about it," replied the reporter. She then asked Marley if fans of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill artist are allowed to "get excited" about new music, to which he said "yes."

Marley was asked if he was "going to be helping [Hill] with the process," to which he responded, "I guess we'll have to see." Marley premiered his next song, "Survival" during his and Hill's performance on the Tonight Show.

Ms. Hill was escorted around the side of her vehicle as she and her son made their exit, during which time the reporter continued to ask about when fans can expect a new project from the neo-soul-R&B icon.

Last year, Hill toured the United States in honor of the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The album earned her 10 nominations at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards; she would go on to take home five of these awards, including the coveted Album of the Year Award. The record was the first hip-hop album to win the title, and was the first project to receive a perfect "XXL" rating from XXL.

Since dropping her debut album, Hill has released only MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. The live album features Hill singing alone over an acoustic guitar, with lyrics focusing on themes of religion, mental health and abuse of authority.

Hill was set to hit the road with the Fugees, her hit 1990s trio, in 2021 for a 25th anniversary tour, but the series of shows was canceled due to member Pras Michel's ongoing legal troubles. Two thirds of the trio, Hill and Wyclef Jean, reunited during YG Marley's performance at last month's Coachella.

As for new material, Hill nodded slyly when asked. She was met with eager fans who snapped selfies with the star as she walked towards her vehicle.

"How soon? Maybe end of year? Next year?" asked the reporter.

"Soon," Hill said ominously before hopping into the SUV, leaving the scene with a "thank you."

Marley himself earned his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with the floaty, tropical "Praise Jah in the Moonlight." The song, which samples Marley's grandfather Bob, had a brief stint on TikTok and reached the 34th spot on the Hot 100; it reached the top slot on New Zealand's charts.
