Soulja Boy first came into the rap game and made a superstar of himself with the release of his hit "Crank That" and the dance craze that followed. Since then, Soulja has been regarded as influential staple in hip-hop.
During a recent interview with Vlad TV, the rapper/producer claimed that he was the inspiration behind a lyric in Drake's smash "Started From The Bottom."
"I wear my jewelry all the time," Soulja Boy said. "What Drake said in that song? 'I wear all my chains on even when I'm in the house.' He got that shit from me. You know what I'm saying? I'm in the house I got four, five chains on...Cause I never had nothing. I come from the hood. I come from the ghetto. I come from the brokest hood in Atlanta, Georgia on the West Side. I never had shit, so when I made my first million dollars at 17 I said 'Nigga, I'mma ball out. I want niggas to know that I made it.' So, this is a statement of me not having nothing and coming to being something. Making nothing to something."
His girlfriend, Nia Riley, who appears with him on VH1's Love And Hip-Hop: Hollywood, chimed in and confirmed that she has to make him remove his jewelry before going to bed.
In the interview, Soulja Boy also opens up about his decision to venture into reality television.
"I just feel like the media, they take my words and they mix my sh*t up all the time," he explained. "The reason I did the show though was to really clear up the perception for my fans. I'm always on the blogs. I'm always on MediaTakeOut. I just want to give people the real story of what I'm really doing."
