Sean "Diddy" Combs has addressed the 2016 video of him in a physical altercation with his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, claiming he's not going to be making excuses for his appalling behavior on the video.
Despite this, an expert in nonverbal communication highlighted that his apology on social media may give the impression that he is casting himself as the victim.
The disturbing footage showed him dragging and kicking the woman in a hotel lobby, as well as appearing to throw an object in her direction.
In this recent Instagram post, the Bad Boy Records mogul expressed remorse for reaching a low point, emphasizing that he takes full responsibility for his behavior without offering justification.
Body language specialist Judi James dissected Combs' manner of speaking to uncover hints of portraying himself as a victim. This analysis is presented by The Mirror,
According to James, Combs sits with his shoulders hunched, delivering his message in a noticeably lower tone and donning what appears to be a deliberately chosen modest, loose-necked t-shirt in the video. His speech is accompanied by a slack jaw and droopy eyelids, adding to the overall impression.
She explained, "His choice of wording during this soliloquy sounds telling. Swerving the use of the personal 'I' of ownership and confession he generalises with a 'you' which makes his lines about 'the darkest times in your life' and 'sometimes you got to do that' imply that his behaviour was the kind of thing we've all been guilty of at some point in our lives."
The expert went on to say, "He then seems to portray himself as a victim, looking to the right and shaking his head as he tells us 'I was at rock bottom,' switching to the use of the personal in what sounds like an attempt to vie for sympathy. 'I had to go to therapy' also makes him sound like the one suffering. Describing his behavior 'in that video' as 'inexcusable,' his right cheek winces in a micro-gesture."

In Combs' speech, he referenced God, directing his plea for mercy upwards toward the heavens. The word "sorry" is used twice in the phrases "I'm so sorry" and "I'm truly sorry," yet the intended recipients and reasons for these apologies were not mentioned, James said.
She then asked, could it be directed towards his supporters? Notably absent is any mention of his former romantic partner, Ventura.
It's not only the expert who wonders about this though. Netizens took to their social media to ask why he cannot just say sorry to Ventura directly.
