Melissa Joan Hart expressed her guilt in an interview with Entertainment Tonight as she reflected on her friendship with pop star Britney Spears.

According to Hart, she and Spears spent a lot of good times together in the late 1990s when they were doing a lot of press tours.

"Britney and I got to do a lot of press together. And we had a lot of fun together during this time," Hart recalled about her relationship and experience with Spears. "I saw that she was just surrounded by people, never able to break free. And I was like, 'Hey want to come?'"

Notably, Hart was six years older than Spears. When Hart wanted Spears to experience more in life, she invited her to a nightclub.

"I would go to a club every night -- I love dancing and I loved going out, but I also knew to be responsible and, like, when to stop," the actress reflected before admitting her guilt. "She was underage and young and -- but I [was] just like, 'Let's go out. We're just gonna go out and have some fun.' And yeah -- and I feel really guilty about that still to this day because I should have known better, being a big sister."

Spears was 17 when she and Hart starred in the "(You Drive Me) Crazy" music video; around this time, the 23-year-old also invited Spears to the club.

Since then, Spears has gotten the hang of it. She then struggled with non-stop partying until the early 2000s. According to Hart, she still looks back on this decision to bring Spears, whom she considers a younger sister, "to this day."

Hart and Spears have lost contact throughout the years, but she went on to see her a while back.

"I saw her when she was doing her Vegas residency a few years back, but she was doing her show so, you know, it was a quick hello backstage and that was it," Hart recalled.

While it could be considered that Hart's introduction to nightclubs is pivotal, Spears wrote in her controversial The Woman In Me memoir that she had experienced drinking with her mother, Lynne Spears, when she was still in the eighth grade.
