An ominous Instagram post from Eminem stirred a response from an unlikely crowd: Halsey fans.
It began when Eminem posted a screenshot of a text message that reads "...and for my last trick!" from someone named "All Contacts" with a rabbit sporting a hat as the contact picture. The message was received on Friday, May 31 at midnight -- which is not until next week.
Halsey stans were quick to point out that "for my last trick" is a phrase Halsey has been using in her new era for her untitled fifth album. She has yet to make a formal announcement about the record.
"Eminem teases new music with Halsey's website name for her new era...Collab maybe?" wrote X user, @TheHalseyRoom, which functions as a "go-to source for updates, news and chart positions of the singer-songwriter @halsey."
The update account continued, posting a photo of Halsey and Eminem and saying that "Halsey previously shared she was supposed to be featured in Eminem's 'Revival' but the artist got mad after "Him & I" was released." "Him & I" is a collaborative effort from Halsey and her ex-boyfriend, G-Eazy, with whom Eminem has publicly beefed.
Another Halsey fan, @punkseyy, noted that the rabbit contact picture could be a reference to one of Eminem's aliases, "B-Rabbit," as well as a digital sticker on Halsey's website, formylasttrick.com. He was also quick to point out that Halsey had recently posted a stuffed rabbit.
User @safeandsoudly_ pointed to a sticker Halsey had attached to a physical letter, which reads "Hello my name is," and could be a hint at Eminem's moniker, Slim Shady. Another sticker on formylasttrick.com features Michigan, Eminem's home state. Eminem was also born on Oct. 17; the number 17 is a key part of Halsey's lore. Additionally, the two musicians are both Libras.
Not everyone is convinced that the rapper and singer are teaming up for a new release.
"Eminem and halsey collaboration, bfr people," posted an X user, attaching a gif of a woman rolling her eyes in dismay.
"I highly doubt Halsey is going ft. Eminem after she cried ab his lyrics on killshot," wrote @dantheestan, referencing Eminem's diss against Machine Gun Kelly, "Killshot." Halsey and MGK have a song together, "forget me too," and are rumored to have dated in 2017.
Both Eminem and Halsey are in the midst of beginning new album cycles, with the former posting an obituary for his Slim Shady character. Halsey, meanwhile, has only shared the formylasttrick.com website with fans, leaving theorists to try to figure out when an official announcement, or new single, when arrive.
Halsey is set to take the big screen this fall, when she will be appearing in Ti West's MaXXXine.
