Billie Eilish just released her new album Hit Me Hard and Soft, and many fans applauded her for the aesthetic of her new era, including the official album cover featuring her underwater. More recently, the Academy Award-winning musician gave an insight into how her team pulled off that shot.
The "What Was I Made For" songstress appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, revealing that the cover art was not edited and was "very real."
"I had gone to sleep at 7 a.m... I woke up, I dyed my hair black - it was like bright red - I dyed it black that day. Then I went to this random place in Santa Clarita or some nonsense," she recalled.
The pop singer added that she was inside a 10-foot-deep tank in a "giant place" for six hours for the photoshoot.
Eilish added that she was "fully clothed" the entire time, wearing a pair of big, long pants, giant shorts, a thermal long-sleeve, a flannel, a tie, accessories, and a weight strapped to keep her down the water.
Colbert asked the musician whose idea was it to strap her down as it was dangerous; she answered: "Dude, I've done it so many times - almost died in these shoots. It's like I need to suffer."

The singer further explained that she doesn't think about "the most uncomfortable" thing that she could dream of going to these photoshoots; rather, she envisions the visual first and how it's going to make her feel, then deals with "how horrible it is" later on.
For the visuals, Eilish revealed that her inspirations were optical illusions as they make people question or think about it for a longer time.
In other updates about the singer, the musician opened up in an unpublished excerpt from her Rolling Stone cover that she is still on good terms with her ex-boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, even a year following their split.
She told the outlet that the singer is one of her favorite people in the world.
According to Page Six, the former couple "amicably split" after less than nine months of dating. They first sparked dating rumors in 2022 after they were spotted having a date night in West Hollywood. They were later seen kissing in Studio City.
