Jelly Roll and Machine Gun Kelly have been friends for a long time, but the former recently revealed that they had an issue when they were starting out in the music industry.

In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, the country star recalled the time when they were both trying to sell 200 tickets to a bar in Columbus, Ohio.

"Hip-hop was competitive back then, so of course, we'd beef like two white [rappers] - 'there's only enough room for one white rapper at the time," he said.

Fortunately, things improved eventually, as Jelly Roll added, "We've turned out to be really, really great friends."

The recent news comes after several photos of the two stars and Travis Barker circulated on social media, with fans theorizing that a possible collaboration will be revealed in the future.

When asked about the potential collab, the country musician didn't directly answer as he responded, "Yeah baby! I love that, I love that quote. MGK said, 'I'm in the kitchen, and it's southern fried.'"

He also noted that MGK is his buddy, and they "work a lot."

"I've known of Kells 15 years, probably, 14 years since we were both on the underground hip-hop scene," he added.

As of this writing, neither of the three has yet to announce the collaborative track that they're working on.

In the same interview, Jelly Roll opened up about his new era of music, teasing fans that there will be "a lot of storytelling" in his new record. He also revealed that he had written over 150 songs last year.

The reason why he's been working a lot on new material is because he was inspired by the many stories he learned from different people, whether he met them at the gas station or even red-carpet events.

Later on, Jelly Roll became candid about his sobriety journey, saying that marijuana has helped him become sober.

Although his stance was a "hot button topic" because his friends don't use the substance in their programs, he noted that his sobriety journey was different from theirs.

"I think a world without weed, Jelly Roll's drinking codeine and popping Xanax and snorting cocaine again. But a world with weed, I'll be alright," he said.
