New Kids on the Block is giving fans major nostalgia vibes as they're set to revive their 1990 Magic Summer Tour this year. More recently, the group spoke about their highly successful series of concerts from 30 years ago.
According to People magazine, the original Magic Summer Tour ran from April to September 1990. At the time, it amassed massive success and became one of the top 10 grossing tours of that year.
Even though the tour was successful financially, Danny Wood told the outlet that there were "not a lot of great memories" at the time, and one of the main reasons was that they didn't connect with fans due to the size of the venues.
"Things just got too big with the stadiums. We were so far away from the crowd, and we felt this disconnect from their reactions. It just felt like we were going through the motions," he recalled.
Donnie Wahlberg added that the group thrives on the energy of its supporters, but it felt "completely disconnected" as it performed on a massive stage. The people it saw at the venues looked like ants from afar.
"We just couldn't connect with the fans and I think that didn't help," he added.
Since the group was very young at the time, with members being teenagers except for Joey McIntyre, who was only 12, it took a toll on them, and they felt the circumstances weren't the best for them to thrive.
Today, the band will attempt to bring the magic back as they are set to revive their Magic Summer Tour this year, along with supporting acts Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
