PinkPantheress has released countless songs over the past years, but many noticed that her tracks are very short, as most of them don't surpass the two-minute and 30 seconds total running time. More recently, the musician gave the reason she chose to drop tracks that way.
The British singer, who rose to fame after her Ice Spice collaboration "Boy's A Liar Pt. 2" went viral on social media, sat down for an interview with ABC News' Prime Playlist, where she finally explained why her tracks are short.
"I was able to experiment, and making short songs was just a result of me experimenting," she said, adding that a song doesn't need to be longer than two minutes and 30 seconds.
"A song doesn't need to be longer than 2 minutes 30, in my opinion. We don't need to repeat a verse, we don't need to have a bridge, we don't need it. We don't need a long outro," she added.
Although the singer mainly released short songs, PinkPantheress's longest song is "Capable" from her latest album, Heaven Knows. The song has a total running time of 3 minutes and 43 seconds, but the majority of the tracklist is only between 2 minutes and 3 minutes long.
Her 2021 mixtape, To Hell With It, contains ten songs, and only three tracks are longer than two minutes.
In the same interview, the musician finally revealed why she performed under the stage name PinkPantheress, saying it came from her social media username.
Initially, the 23-year-old singer was creating an account on TikTok, and she wanted to use the name Pantheress; however, another user took it.
"It was taken, and I was just like, this is a throwaway account anyway, so let me just put pink in front 'cause I love the film. I really was planning to change it, she said.
She first released music without anyone knowing her true self, and it was "very scary" for her that the public wanted to figure out who she was.
The singer was also afraid her friends would find out about her music, so she blocked some of them from the account.
Last year, PinkPantheress released her debut album, Heaven Knows. She also just wrapped up her tour in April. In other updates, the musician will be busy for the rest of the year as Olivia Rodrigo's supporting act for her ongoing GUTS World Tour.
