Selena Gomez is seemingly responding to fans who call her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, ugly.
The Only Murders in the Building star is commending her music producer boyfriend for the way he handles the viral fan attention about his appearance. When they officially went public with their relationship, social media users would frequently comment on Blanco's appearance.
Several of Gomez's fans did come to her defense, pointing out her happiness during the relationship, but others were not as kind. She now is seemingly hitting back at those who do not approve of her relationship, saying that her fans frequently say "hurtful things" about her personal life. She admits that throughout their relationship, Blanco's has brushed off the critics.
"I know what people can do to people I love. My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life," she tells Time Magazine. "But he has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him. It's really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that he's not going anywhere any time soon."
Blanco has publicly called himself "ugly" in a recent interview. The viral video features the 36-year-old joking about his appearance, saying that he is "actually so ugly" that he's hot.
"I'm actually so ugly and my features are, like, so grotesque. That I, like, popped out the other side and now I'm just like, a hot guy."

His blatant honesty is a trait that Gomez seems to enjoy, saying that "he can't lie to save his life. If he's asked a question, he'll answer it." Those skills are something she admits she has had to work on throughout her life.
Prior to meeting Blanco, Gomez had been alone for five years. After she had officially ended her relationship with Justin Bieber, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum did not publicly cop to having a boyfriend until Blanco. When asked if having a partner helps her process her complex mental health and emotions, Gomez says the two are not fully intertwined.
"It's a little irrelevant, only because he isn't my only source of happiness," Gomez shared. "I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it."
The 31-year-old even admits to having a personal pact with herself that she would adopt a child if she was still single at 35.
"Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone," she said before she met Blanco. "It just happens when you least expect it."
With Blanco in the picture, she insinuates that the plan is no longer in motion.
