After sharing the cover art for her new album on Monday (June 3), Sabrina Carpenter is being called out by some for virtually duplicating an old photo featured in a French magazine.

Carpenter's new album, Short n' Sweet, is due on Aug. 23. The cover art features a photo of the blue-eyed, blonde looking over her bare shoulder, which bears a red lipstick kiss imprint.

Keen observers on social media were quick to point out that Carpenter's photo has an uncanny resemblance to a photo of French model Tiffany Collier, who is striking a similar pose complete with the red lipstick kiss.

Collier's photo dates back to at least February 2018, when she posted it on Instagram along with the message "Happy Valentine's Day." She also credited photographer Bruno Juminer.

One fan took to X, formerly Twitter, to post Collier's photo and Carpenter's new album cover side-by-side, writing, "wait who is this?"

Others weren't as kind, with one writing, "Just literally copied and pasted the inspo." "The problem isn't that Sabrina took inspo from some french Cosmo shoot (that's normal), the problem is it lacks all the emotion of the original," another person posted. "The girl on the left actually looks outside - shadows off her bangs, sultry squint, sunkissed. Sabrina is serving [Instagram] face in a studio!"

Some fans, however, were quick to defend the "Espresso" singer. "Her new era is inspired by a retro summer aesthetic and that's inspiration from that time and era she never claimed to have been the original creator of that photo," one wrote.

Another commenter addressed the potential legal implications of Carpenter's album cover shot. "It's complicated but legally it's just inspiration cause anyone can do this," they wrote. "But if she were to take the original and just put it as her cover then that'd be considered stolen."

Music Times reached out to Carpenter's reps for comment.

Meanwhile, Carpenter's sixth album will be previewed with a new single, set to drop on Thursday (June 6).

"This project is quite special to me and I hope it'll be something special to you too. I also have a surprise coming for you on Thursday night so keep an eye out," Carpenter said in a statement.
