Kim Kardashian is channeling her daughter North West's recent role in "The Lion King" during a performance, but not all fans were impressed, accusing her of stealing the spotlight from her very own daughter.
While North West was at the receiving end of many criticisms of her performance as Young Simba, this does not mean her performance did not make a mark for some. Fans are not happy that her mom would steal her thunder.
On Tuesday, the SKIMS mogul shared a series of images on Instagram, donning a furry tan costume reminiscent of North's portrayal of Simba in Disney's "The Lion King" at the Hollywood Bowl.
Online critics were quick to call out Kim for allegedly overshadowing her daughter's moment.
One Instagram user commented, "You couldn't let your daughter have a moment; you had to wear it too."
Another questioned, "Why can't she ever let anyone have their moment? Always wants to outdo the original."
One cannot help but type their comments in all capital letters: "GIRL WHY YOU GOTTA STEAL@YOUR DAUGHTERS SPOTLIGHT. THIS IS BEYOND SELFISH"
A third sarcastically remarked, "'Let's make it about me.'"
One asked, "Was this a Kim campaign all along?"
On the other hand, could it be the mom's way to shift the attention away from her daughter and for her to be at the brunt of people's ire instead? One can only wonder.
There are still some who could see the positive in her actions though.
"I love that you gave your daughter her moment and then you shared it with her. You both look so adorable and cozy!!!!," one said.
North's singing debut with "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" garnered attention during the live concert event in May.
The performance sparked debates about nepotism, with some questioning whether she deserved the role solely due to her celebrity status.
Reports suggest that the Kardashian family's ties to Disney, coupled with Kim's financial contributions to the casting process, facilitated North's casting, with her musical abilities being a secondary consideration.
Author Marc Lamont Hill defended North, suggesting that her involvement brought significant attention to the production, potentially benefiting future Disney stage projects.
