Katy Perry's new album has been played for a lucky group of critics... and it's confirmed to be full of "bops."
The highly-anticipated record, her first in four years, is slated to be released at some point this year. While Perry has been hyping up the project in recent press interviews, little has been known about the album - until now.
A new video is circulating social media where journalist Rachel Stern from Entertainment Tonight has revealed that she has heard eight songs off the new album, confirming that each of them is a "bop." While sporting a hat that displays the new "KP" logo that the "Teenage Dream" plastered over her social media and website, Stern raved about the upcoming record.
"Okay, guys. If you can't tell by my hat, guess where I just came out of? Listening to an exclusive sneak peek of 'KP6.' We listened to eight songs and let me tell ya, Eight out of eight a bop. You aren't even ready. You are not even ready for 'KP6.' Eight out of eight," the media personality raved as she walked out of the event.
The exclusive listening session seems to have been extremely private, with Stern claiming that she was sworn to secrecy about what she had just heard.
"I can't give you anything more than that. I can't give you anything more. I have been sealed to secrecy. But just let me tell you, just let me tell you: you guys aren't even ready for the bops. The bops that are coming your way for 'KP6.' Just get ready folks. Just get ready."
It is unclear where the listening session took place and how many people attended. However, Katy Perry fans are hoping that the event will lead to an announcement about the new single soon.
"8 out of 8??? Another 6 #1s, one #2 and one #3 coming," a fan hoped, referencing Perry's iconic chart-topping run for her Teenage Dream album. The Grammy-nominated record scored a historic six No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 in the early 2010s.
"KP6 will be Katy's first album to receive a Grammy, bookmark this bc I know it's going to happen," another fan said, looking back on the surprising fact that although Perry is largely looked at as one of the most popular musical artists this century, she has never won a Grammy.
"[I don't care] what anyone says but THE KATY PERRY is back back this time," another fan commented.
As eagle-eyed "Katy Kats" try to decipher where the listening event may have taken place, they have located a large statue of Kermit the Frog in the background of the video. The large statue of the beloved Muppet is traced back to The Jim Henson Studio in Hollywood. While it is unclear if the event actually took place in the studios, it is clear that the event did take place within the vicinity.
Their hopefulness begs the question: will her sixth studio album be Katy Perry's return to the top? After her first three albums - One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, and Prism - hold some of the greatest pop songs of all time. After the 39-year-old's last two albums, Witness and Smile, tipped her pop princess crown a bit, her new LP would be a make-or-break moment for her music career.
Perry has teased the new project includes "one of her biggest songs," although nothing has officially been announced. However, the "Roar" singer has made one thing clear to her fans: this summer, she is ready to "give them what they've been waiting for."
