Halsey fans were moved to tears upon hearing their new song "The End" amid news of the singer's private health battle with leukemia and lupus.
The singer, who goes by she/they pronouns, revealed their struggles in a series of Instagram videos on Tuesday, coinciding with the song's release and announcing a forthcoming album.
In their caption, they wrote, "Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album." While their exact diagnosis wasn't specified, they tagged The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance in their post.
In one of the videos, the singer is seen massaging their legs while saying, "I feel like an old lady. I told myself I'm giving myself two more years to be sick. By 30 I'm having a rebirth, and I'm not gonna be sick, and I'm gonna look super hot and have lots of energy and I'm just gonna redo my 20s in my 30s. Seriously."
The lyrics of "The End" described how Halsey is dealing with her condition.
"Every couple of years now, a doctor says I'm sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don't like to complain, but I'm saying sorry," they sing.
Fans took to social media, expressing gratitude for Halsey's openness and sharing emotional responses to the song. One fan wrote, "Oh, Halsey. Thank you for sharing, I'm a puddle of tears, but sending you love."
"I am balling my eyes out. I love you so much," one more said.
Another wrote, "Omg. And the fact that you're still going strong with your family, About Face, and a new album. We don't deserve you, but thank you."
Another fan echoed the same sentiments, "you are strong Halsey, let's fight for your children, be the happiest mother in the world, later so we can have a concert with our seven BTS members, Halsey we army love you, get well soon sister, ilove u."

The upcoming album is a sequel to their fourth studio album, 2021's ambitious "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power," produced by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
In a press release, Halsey announced that they will donate to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance alongside the release of "The End."
At just 17, they began writing songs and landed a recording contract with Astralwerks in 2014. That same year, they released their debut EP, "Room 93," which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Their debut album, Badlands, was released in 2015. It reached #2 in the U.S. and Australia and was also in the Top 10 in several other countries.
Halsey's career soared when they featured on "Closer," a 2016 hit by The Chainsmokers, which topped the charts in over ten countries.
Their second solo album, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom," debuted at #1 in the U.S. and achieved Platinum status upon its release in 2017.
In 2019, Halsey collaborated with BTS on the song "Boy with Luv," amassing nearly 75 million views in its first day and now boasting over 900 million on YouTube.
Their song "Nightmare," released in mid-2019, garnered over 99 million views on YouTube by April 2020.
