Lorde appears to be teasing new music in a new cryptic Instagram post. The singer recently shared a series of photos to social media, three of which are focused on spit.
One shot shows Lorde on a balcony, gearing up to spit at the people below; the following is the aftermath as Lorde dribbles spit out of her mouth and over the edge of the balcony. In the pictures, she sports a long black dress, creating the familiar witchy vibe that defined her younger years.
The third photo in the slide is a tiny pill with the word "SPIT" carved into it resting in her palm. Another picture shows an ashtray filled with gold jewelry. She continues with a black and white selfie taken after a swim, and finishes off the slideshow with a slightly blurred photo of her back, once again wearing the black dress from the beginning of the post.

While the message written in a nearly indistinguishable font has yet to be fully decoded, fans have settled on the idea that the letter "L," which is shown in multiple fonts, and the appearance of the number "4" indicate that the singer's fourth album is on its way.
The number 27 also appears, causing some fans to think that the theoretical album will release on June 27.
"L4 on the 27th???" wrote a confused commenter.
"L4 AUGUST 16TH," mused one fan.
"So l4 or lead single is called spit..... question mark," added another.
One X user wrote that she is "so hyped for this!! Lorde always knows how to keep us on our toes."
Lorde's fourth album -- if indeed on the way -- will be her first since 2021's Solar Power. Lorde dubbed that record her "weed" album as it's more laid-back than Melodrama or Pure Heroine. The album's title was inspired by a trip she took to Antarctica, and allowed her to feel like she "could just chill out and flex a little bit" during the album-making process.
Solar Power received mixed responses from fans and critics alike as the record was a sharp departure from her previous works. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 200.
"It took people awhile to get the album -- I still get emails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! - and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first," Lorde told People in 2022.
"I learnt a ton about myself and how I'm perceived by making and releasing this album, and I feel significantly more connected and alive in my art practice and life than pretty much ever before," she stated.
While fans wait for an official announcement from the "Ribs" singer, they're sure to be tided over with the arduous process of decoding Lorde's cryptic caption.
A member of the Reddit forum r/popheads joked that they're "about to steal the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum so I can decode this Instagram post."
