American Idol has yet to announce the musician who will replace Katy Perry on the show, but Luke Bryan namedropped two potential musicians after Kelly Clarkson revealed she could not take on the role.
Perry left her seat on American Idol after leaving the show before Season 23. Among the fan-favorite rumored replacements is Clarkson, who has since dismissed the idea of being part of the program.
Clarkson, who became the first-ever American Idol in 2002, spoke with Entertainment Tonight to reveal what has been keeping her away from the gig.
"I can't do that, only because I promised my kids," the singer explained. "I was like, 'I wanna be there as much as I possibly can.' And it would put me in L.A., and that's why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much."
The "Stronger" singer is residing in New York City with her two kids.
Before getting linked to the American Idol gig, Clarkson worked as a judge on The Voice from Seasons 14 to 21 before returning for her final season in Season 23.
After her revelation, Luke Bryan told E! News there have been several musicians linked to the role.
"We're waiting to hear who the show is going to pick. I know that Pink, her name was thrown around, Miley Cyrus," said Bryan. "The whole thing about that role is you gotta have personality and you gotta have fun with it every day."
He added, "And I think Meghan [Trainor] has fun with her career, she's kind of like me. She doesn't take herself too serious, she has fun with her music. So, yeah, that'd be great."
Ever since Perry announced her departure, rumors about her replacement surfaced. Other musicians linked to American Idol gig include Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Jelly Roll, Jennifer Lopez, Jordin Sparks, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Taylor Swift and Tori Kelly.
Meanwhile, a source told the National Enquirer that Jon Bon Jovi might also be the next person to be on the judging panel.
"A living legend with undeniable charisma, he possesses all the qualities necessary to command the stage and captivate TV audiences," said the insider.
Still, it might be impossible to see the rocker on the show as he reportedly demanded a whopping $25 million salary.
