Prior to a lawsuit filed by his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, Kanye West was also sued by his ex-employee for unpaid wages and damages to his Malibu house. More recently, an outlet conducted a lengthy investigation that revealed more details behind the rapper's plans for his property.
Initially, the musician wanted his Tadao Ando-designed home remixed into a minimalist style. So, he hired contractor Tony Saxon to remove some of its amenities, such as the kitchen, bathroom, and more.
The rapper initially wanted the place to be "Simple fresh, and cleeeeeean."
However, in an investigation launched by the New Yorker, the former contractor revealed that West's wife, Bianca Censori, told Saxon that the musician didn't want any of the wood to show, so he was allegedly instructed to paint over parts of the home, such as cabinets, closets, and even marble.
One of the renovation plans was adding a foam slide to the house instead of a staircase, and although the contractor wasn't involved with that project, Censori had allegedly asked him to remove the foam.
In the investigation, Saxon revealed that he negotiated a fee of $20,000 per week. Still, he also agreed that additional funding for his colleagues and a budget to buy new materials would be added.
Unfortunately, the situation went out of hand, and he and his team were exposed to intruders because they were forced to sleep on a mattress in a corner of the main floor despite the home being under renovation.
There were also times that Saxon had to intervene with fans who appeared to be live-streaming and allegedly barged in.
West purchased the property with the mansion for $57 million in 2021. He attempted to sell it for 4 million dollars less with the help of Jason Oppenheim.
"The interior finishes have been removed, and this creates an unbelievably rare opportunity to buy a Picasso on the water with the ability to restore it to your own specific standards, with modern technology and excellence," the Selling Sunset star told TMZ at the time.
In an attempt to sell the house faster, the property is now listed at only $14 million.
Saxon filed a lawsuit against Kanye West, whose legal name is Ye, alleging he was fired for trying to do the right thing. Regardless, the musician refused to pay him "the money he is owed under the law."
