Critics of Katy Perry have voiced their disappointment with her latest release, "Woman's World," following the leak of a preview on Monday.
The "I Kissed A Girl" hitmaker has decided to prioritize her music career by stepping away from her role on American Idol and channeling all her energy into working on her upcoming sixth studio album.
Her latest song was released without authorization followed by a sneak peek from Perry on Instagram shortly after.
In the video, the mom-of-one could be spotted lip-syncing to the words, "Sexy, confident. So intelligent. She is heaven-sent. So soft, so strong."
Making a big reveal, she shared that the song would drop on July 11 with an exciting hint, "GET READY TO POP OFF."
Unfortunately, most recent work failed to impress critics, who described it as "horrible" and "terrible," and even labeled it a "trash stupid flop."
According to X user @king_ghooul, "Katy Perry's never-ending cringe has reached Jojo Siwa levels."
@Snshores wrote, "Was excited for Katy Perry's comeback. I thought she was giving us another 'Firework,' literally. But instead, she's giving us a generic, cringe feminist song with, like, really, really feminist lyrics. I mean, feminist enough to sound like 2016 Tumblr captions or those one-liner stickers on laptops. It doesn't feel like a Katy Perry song. It almost sounds sarcastic. So maybe she will turn this around, but that snippet sounded disappointing which really sucks because the cover looks cool."
@chrisIivias said on X, "new katy perry song is terrible she'll never be what she was back in the."
However, some fans also comment that the leaked song is fake because Universal Music Group "hasn't taken it down."
One X user said, "It sounds like AI," while another said, "It's fake. Nice try tho."
But some defended that it is indeed a real song.
@HungryguyO wrote, "This is not fake. Check Katy last TikTok the song is the same. Sounds a flop tho... could've put more effort in it."
In addition to the track itself, fans expressed concerns about its authenticity. Perry also faced backlash for collaborating with producer Dr. Luke on both the song and the album.
One user wrote, "The irony of having a song praising women, but you're working with Dr. Luke? Katy Perry I didn't expect this from you."
In the past, Kesha made allegations against Dr. Luke for sexual assault, eventually resolving their extended legal battle in 2023.
After the snippet release of Perry's new song, Kesha responded with a casual "lol" on social media, leading to speculation that she might be subtly referencing to the "Roar" hitmaker.
