Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of the rap rock band Crazy Town, has passed away at the age of 49. Fans are devastated.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Shellshock - whose real name was Seth Binzer - died on Monday at his residence in Los Angeles.
He had struggled with addiction for many years, though the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
On April 20, he posted on Instagram a photo showing someone in a black top and balaclava facing the camera. Surrounding this figure were others dressed similarly in white, all looking away. The image carried the caption: "Real is rare, fake is everywhere." This would become his last IG post before someone from his team made the last post announcing his death.
Fans expressed their condolences in the comments section of Shellshock's pinned Instagram, with many claiming his addiction took his life.
Crazy Town was founded in 1995 by Shellshock and fellow rapper Bret "Epic" Mazur. The group included members such as DJ Rick One, Mark White, Adam Bravin, Charles Lopez, and others.
They gained significant popularity with their 2000 single "Butterfly," which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for two nonconsecutive weeks. After a disappointing reception of their second album, Crazy Town disbanded in 2003.
Following the group's second album's lackluster reception, Shellshock embarked on a solo career in 2002. His notable success came with the hit "Starry Eyed Surprise," a collaboration with Paul Oakenfold that peaked at No. 41 on the charts.
In 2012, he faced legal issues, including charges of battery and cocaine possession. According to Variety, he was hospitalized that same year after losing consciousness and slipping into a coma, from which he eventually recovered.
However, the band reunited four years later and released their third album, "The Brimstone Sluggers," in 2015.
In 2017, Shellshock renamed the band Crazy Town X.

Shellshock was candid about his ongoing battles with addiction. He participated in "Celebrity Rehab" twice and appeared on its spin-off series, "Sober House," also twice.
And yet, in 2022, the rapper was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, he faced another DUI in Myrtle Beach in April 2023. During this incident, Shellshock allegedly drove under the influence following a physical altercation with a bandmate. Reports indicated he appeared lethargic, slurred his words, and failed a field sobriety test when pulled over.
Shellshock is survived by his three children, Halo, Gage and Phoenix.
