Machine Gun Kelly started out in the music industry as a rapper. Later, he dabbled into the pop-punk genre with his albums Tickets to My Downfall and Mainstream Sellout. More recently, the singer teased a potential new era with a new sound as he covered Zach Bryan's country song.

The country music industry has been thriving this year as several musicians released their take on the classic genre, such as Beyoncé with Cowboy Carter, Post Malone with F-1 Trillion, and Lana Del Rey with Lasso. More recently, MGK appears to be switching genres again.

Earlier this month, the "Emo Girl" hitmaker performed at the CMA Fest at Spotify House, where he performed the song "There's Your Trouble" by the Chicks. Today, the musician continued his country theme by covering Zach Bryan's "Sun to Me" from his American Heartbreak album.

The video featured the rockstar performing the hit track from his living room at Cheshire Cottage, where another guitarist accompanied him.

Many fans celebrated MGK as they applauded him for the cover, with one fan writing, "Bros so f****** versatile and has so much talent how can you hate on him."

Another one added: "MGK is a musical genius. He's the definition of what I think life is. It's never linear. It's evolving and growing and changing constantly. That's just what he's doing, and in any genre he wants. He's not limiting himself. And he's thriving in it."

As of this writing, the singer, whose real name is Colson Baker, has yet to reveal whether he plans to release a country album.

In 2022, the musician spoke with the Hollywood Reporter, defending himself after critics called him out for switching genres as he used to be a rapper who later became a pop-punk singer.

"I'm talented as f****** and I added on to my catalogue of four great rap albums. So what I did was I added on - never departed, left or switched," he said.

Earlier that year, he declared that he would return to rapping and release a rap album following his Mainstream Sellout era, saying that he would finish his tour first and expand his "storytelling as a rapper" to find an innovative sound for his hip-hop self. However, he has yet to share more details about the project.
