Coldplay's Chris Martin reflected on the band's 1999 Glastonbury Festival debut in the new BBC documentary Coldplay: Our Glastonbury.

According to Martin, the band almost missed their chance to perform at the biggest festival in the United Kingdom because their tour manager dropped them off at the wrong festival entrance moments before they were expected to be onstage for their performance.

"The hunger to go there was so huge. Our first introduction, I think, was probably carrying a not-very-good amplifier with a drunken tour manager who, you know, obviously didn't know what he was doing either," Martin remembered, as NME quoted.

Martin recalled basking in the feeling of being in Glastonbury before continuing to detail how the mishap continued.

"We sort of had a very quick intake of the whole place, and then started where you should start, which is in the New Bands Tent, first on. I don't think I thought about the wider, how wild it was. It was just like we were here and we're late and it's huge," the Grammy-winning vocalist said.

25 years after their first performance, Coldplay is due to perform their fifth performance at Glastonbury Festival on June 29, 2024. Their performance will be livestreamed on the BBC website from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. ET.

Since making their debut more than two decades ago, Coldplay has earned many fans, including music veterans.

In a BBC interview podcast, Music Uncovered: The Genius of Coldplay, U2 frontman Bono had good things to say about the band's song "Clocks."

Upon hearing the song, Bono recalled "punching the air in a manly but not aggressive way," saying, "Oh, this is just better than anyone else's song at the moment."

"It just sort of sticks to you, tighter than time itself," he added. "I should mention Coldplay is not a rock band. I hope that's obvious. There is something much more interesting going on there, like the Isley Brothers or something," he explained, adding that they "should not be judged by rock rules.

According to Bono, Coldplay's music differs from that of other rock bands. It has a "different source," best exemplified in their song "Clocks."

Coldplay announced that their tenth album, Moon Music, will be released on Oct. 4, 2024. It will be produced by Max Martin, and the band will release limited, hand-signed, eco-friendly vinyl editions.
