Shakira is gearing up for a strategic move to recoup a portion of the multi-million dollar tax losses she was obligated to settle.

The singer came up short in a string of six tax "fraud" disputes with Spanish authorities, resulting in the loss of this substantial sum. The Latin pop star is poised for a decisive face-off against Spain with the date of the legal face off remains uncertain, as reported by The Sun.

If she wins in the upcoming legal dispute, the 47-year-old stands to reclaim a substantial sum in tax payments that she previously made.

The impending administrative matter pertains to the income she generated in 2011.

Spanish taxation authorities contend that she should have been classified as a Spanish tax resident during that period.

During her presentation at the OffshoreAlert Marbella Conference, attorney Miriam Company emphasized that the "Hips Don't Lie" singer stayed in Spain for only 70 days that year, which fell well below the minimum requirement for being classified as a tax resident.

During November 2023's most recent tax hearing, Shakira successfully negotiated a settlement with authorities to prevent a trial in Barcelona regarding allegations of evading payment of $15.08 million in Spanish income tax from 2012 to 2014, as reported by the LA Times.

She acknowledged the allegations and agreed to pay a penalty of half the outstanding sum, totaling over $7.6 million. Toevade a three-year jail term, she agreed to pay an additional fine of $379,000.

This comes after Shakira's recent revelations, in which she shed light on her separation from Gerard Pique and claimed that her former partner had a negative impact on her life.

Following an 11-year relationship, the Colombian icon parted ways with the ex-Barcelona player in 2022.

Since then, she has devoted her energy to her musical pursuits, marking her return with a new album release after a seven-year hiatus in March 2024.

Drawing from her past romantic involvement, Shakira told Jimmy Fallon in an interview, "I've been putting out music here and there, but it was really hard for me to put together a body of work."

"I didn't have time because of the husband factor. Now I'm husbandless. Yeah, the husband was dragging me down. Now I'm free. Now I can actually work."
