Raul Malo, popularly known for being the frontman of the famed country group the Mavericks, shared devastating news with his fans, confirming that he's been struggling with a medical condition.

Taking to the group's official Instagram account, Malo shared a video of himself saying he had abnormal results during a routine physical checkup. After undergoing a colonoscopy, it was confirmed that he had "two cancerous spots" in his intestinal system.

"The doctors have all agreed that I start therapy after the 4th of July," he revealed, adding that the chemotherapy that he will undergo is the "least intrusive of all of them."

Malo also assured him that the medical team had told him many patients continue working even if they're still under treatment.

Regardless, he told his supporters that his medical condition could affect their upcoming concerts, saying, "Some of the shows may be affected this year as we navigate this situation and see how the therapy goes."

One of the reasons why he went public with his health condition was to tell fans how the shows would be impacted, but he also wanted to ask them to take care of their health.

"Go see a doctor. Be proactive in your health. It'll help fight whatever ails you... Stay healthy, take care of yourselves and I'll see you out on the road," he added.

In a statement shared with Billboard, Malo expressed similar sentiments, telling his fans to see a doctor for checkups if they feel something is wrong.

"I'm sharing this message in the spirit of transparency and honesty, as you all have stuck with us throughout these 35 crazy years of music, shows, breaking up, & getting back together - we've even survived a pandemic together," he said, adding that he will get through this tough time in his life like he already did in the past.

"I'm not going anywhere, and I'll look forward to seeing you all out on the road again soon," he assured his followers.

Earlier this year, the Mavericks released their latest album, Moon & Stars, and have been on the road to perform their new songs. However, given Malo's health issues, a few shows have already been canceled or postponed, including their appearances in Aspen and Steamboat Springs on July 12 and 14, respectively.

On the other hand, their show in Denver on July 13 has been rescheduled to August 25.
