Shania Twain's heartbreaking past took the spotlight again as she performed during the Glastonbury Legend's slot.

On Sunday, June 30, the singer dominated the 2024 Glastonbury Festival with her jaw-dropping performance. She smoothly wrapped up her set, which she launched with her 1998 classic song "That Don't Impress Me Much."

Before reaching the stage, the Queen of Country Pop went through a poverty and abuse-stricken childhood.

The Mirror shared Shania's past interview with The Sunday Times, in which she opened up about learning how to make money with her talent after her parents divorced. Her mother remarried, and her second husband, Jerry Twain, adopted her and her two sisters.

"I would go to do the after-hours set and everyone was already intoxicated. It was a terrible environment for a kid. But I was very professional about it and took it very seriously," she said, adding that Jerry would beat her mom if she did not earn enough for the family.

She did her best to protect and defend herself against physical and sexual abuse, but Shania reached the point where she would flatten her chest to make it go unnoticed.

The "Any Man of Mine" singer shared, "Because, oh my gosh, it was terrible - you didn't want to be a girl in my house. You go into society and you're a girl and you're getting the normal other unpleasant stuff too, and that reinforces it. So then you think, 'Oh, I guess it's just s--- to be a girl. Oh, it's so s--- to have boobs.' I was ashamed of being a girl."

Shania previously detailed her experience in her autobiography, From This Moment On. Apart from the physical and emotional abuse she went through, she disclosed how Jerry sexually abused her by muttering slurs at her and fondling her when she became a teen.

The book also shared how devastated she was when Mutt Lange left her for her close friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, in 2008.

"I'll be honest: when your husband leaves you, and falls into the arms of your close friend, your self-esteem can really suffer," said the "Party for Two" singer.

Shania and Mutt wed in 1993 before they split in 2008. She then married Marie-Anne's ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud.
