Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan drew inspiration from Taylor Swift for his newest movie Trap.
The thriller movie occurs during a pop music event, where police sets a trap to catch a murderer on the loose. According to IndieWire, Shyamalan pitched his innovative concept, saying, "What if The Silence of the Lambshappened at a Taylor Swift concert?"
Highlighting the importance of directing a full-blown concert scene in the movie, he shared key insights and details, saying, "I directed an entire concert! And it wasn't just a thing in the background. It's equally important."
"There is no pretend concert going on. I love the idea of cinema as windows within windows. One of the reasons to come see the movie at the movie theater is because there's literally a real concert that you can see nowhere except in that movie."
Shyamalan said he aimed to craft a movie that would provoke an intense dread and anticipation similar to Hitchcock's signature style. The plot centered on a social sensation akin to Swift's wildly popular Eras Tour and a covert scheme to entrap the alleged killer on the loose.
Shyamalan consistently champions the value of originality and emphasizes his dedication to pushing the boundaries of storytelling methods.
He explained, "I really do believe in the original movie. I want the industry to move towards more original storytelling. I think audiences would really like it. Look, I know there's safety in IP. But it's really important that we come to the movies and see something we've never seen before. I'll keep fighting for that."
At the center of the undercover concert operation aimed at apprehending a serial killer stands Lady Raven played by Saleka, daughter of Shyamalan, brings this important role to life. The movie's core is the duo of Cooper, portrayed by Josh Hartnett, and his daughter Riley, played by Ariel Donoghue, who serve as the focal point of the narrative.
This comes after an article release outlining why Swift's Eras Tour is poised to become the "most legendary of her generation."
