JoJo Siwa confessed that it was her grandmother who had encouraged her to drink liquor onstage.
Admitting the bombshell on the JoJo Siwa Now podcast, the former child star shared the origins of her "favorite f---ng parts" of her recent Pride performance.
"This idea of doing this stemmed from, I was in rehearsals and we were starting a new routine [for] 'Yesterday's Tomorrow's Today,' and my 21st birthday had just passed," Siwa revealed. "I was like, 'I wanna f---ing take a shot before this.' And my grandma was like, 'Alright, JoJo. You should do it.' And I was like, alright. Let's do it!"
According to the 21-year-old singer, the "shot o'clock" makes her crowd go "absolutely ballistic," arguing that it had become a "big thing" when she was performing at the Los Angeles Pride at the Park.
"I bought out a jug of Tito's, and people were like, 'Woah. What are you doing? Is it real? Is it fake?'" she remembered hearing. "And I was like, 'Bitch, it is what it f---ing is. It's a bottle of Tito's.'"
Psychotherapist Dr. Marni Feuerman has questioned Siwa's onstage antics. Speaking to The Sun, Feuerman noted that Siwa is making such drastic changes to make people stop seeing her as a "little kid" anymore.
"She is trying to show herself as a woman making a statement and showing up differently," Feuerman added. "JoJo does not want people to see her through the lens of being a child - or that child - anymore. She is trying to say she is cool, stay noticed, and be memorable."
Aside from drinking Vodka onstage, Siwa has had people raising their eyebrows as she gropes herself onstage in front of young audiences.
"The drinking on the stage and all the other bits and pieces was too much," Feuerman shared. "This was about shock value and dramatics, but many celebrities have shocked like this. This was not new. The shock here came from seeing this abrupt transformation. The dramatic shift so publicly and quickly feels more shocking."
Feuerman also echoed Siwa's pronouncement that she does not want people to forget about her and that she is entering a new phase of her life, stripping off the constructed image formed when she was still a child.
"She is a full-blown adult now and wants to ensure everyone is happy with it. Maybe it is possible that she was not happy before. It could just be her looking at that saying, 'That was me being a child, and this is now.'" Feuerman concluded.
