Matt Damon is reportedly taking action amid concerns for his friend Ben Affleck's sobriety during a tumultuous period in his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
An insider told Radar Online that the worried actor is organizing an intervention with the support of Affleck's closest friends and family members to prevent any potential relapse.
"Damon wants those closest to Affleck to remind him he is loved and supported - and better off without Lopez."
The Batman v. Superman actor is receiving support from a united front, which includes his former wife, Jennifer Garner, and their children, Violet, Fin, and Samuel.
Damon has reportedly been playing a key role in the background, steering Affleck towards distractions that divert his attention from Lopez.
"He believes Affleck's marriage beat him down and pushed him to the edge of relapse from the very beginning. He watched as Ben put his own projects and ambitions to the side to accommodate Lopez's massive ego."
They added, "Damon wants Affleck's pals to convince him he'll be happier and more productive now that she's gone - and doesn't need to fall back on his old vices to get through this crisis!"
Another source revealed to the Daily Mail that the Contagion actor has been advising Affleck to prioritize his professional commitments amid challenges in his marriage to Lopez.
The source revealed that Damon had expressed concerns to Affleck when he reunited with the "All I Have" singer in 2021, warning him about potential issues. After supporting Affleck through their initial breakup in 2004, Damon reportedly feared history might repeat itself.
Additionally, while Affleck's relationship with the Atlas actress hit a rough patch, Damon advised him to prioritize his work instead of getting caught up in his wife's projects.
"Affleck spent so much time focusing on Lopez projects just like he did the first time around. He told Affleck, 'What has she ever done for your career?'"
In light of recent news that Affleck has relocated his items from their joint residence, which is currently on the market, and rumors circulating about the A-list couple auctioning their art collection, Page Six has revealed that the Gigli co-stars' marriage has reached its end and this development reportedly have been in the works for some time.
The couple's marriage has been officially over for "several months" now, with the Gone Girl actor showing a strong sense of protectiveness towards Lopez despite their reported split.
