Paramore's Hayley Williams Says Watching 'Stan Wars' Makes Her 'Happy' Amid Tour With Taylor Swift

Paramore's Hayley Williams, currently on tour with pal Taylor Swift, has commented on the current pop stan debate and how much it is centered around sales and chart numbers.

Earlier this week, Williams took to her Instagram stories to encourage fans to focus more on supporting pop artists and enjoying the music than chart performance, music video views, song streams, and album sales.

In the expired Instagram story Stereogum transcribed, the singer said: "Something I've been thinking about a lot, and why I don't really love it... Especially in the music world, whether it's the pop girls or any scene, really, people only give a f**k about numbers now, and stats. And that is so lame. It's very fun, don't get me wrong. It's sick. We've had a #1 album and top this and that albums, yes. That s**t is great..."

She continued, "But I just remember a time when that was not so important, and that also wasn't a gotcha for a stan-war type of situation. Anyway, I just think it's really f*****g annoying. My side of the internet, which is basically not really the internet, I just get to support all the pop girls. Maybe that's privilege because I'm not a pop girl, but I just think everyone should cool it and let people make really great music and s**t... I'm over it."

In a more recent story, Williams said that watching "stan wars" makes her "so happy" as Paramore is "not really in the pop world."

"I just get to enjoy the good s**t thats come out this year and I'm sorry some of y'all can't," she added. "That's gotta be tough damn."

Paramore and Swift will be on tour in Europe and the U.K. through the end of August.
