The California teenager accused of fatally shooting PnB Rock during a robbery at a Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles restaurant in Los Angeles in 2022 is not yet prepared to stand trial before a jury.

Alongside the suspect, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, the accused individual's father, Freddie Trone, and another man named Tremont Jones are also facing charges related to the case.

Trone is under scrutiny for allegedly being the driver in the escape plan, and there are suspicions that Jones disclosed the location of the "Selfish" rapper to the assailants and may have been involved in providing the weapon used in his tragic death.

Rolling Stone reported that a court hearing was held for the unidentified teenager, and during the proceedings, Commissioner Sharonda P. Bradford clarified that despite the accused shooter receiving assistance, an evaluation concluded that he is unfit to stand a trial.

The next hearing is scheduled for next month.

The defense attorneys representing the two suspects argued that some charges lacked sufficient evidence to support their client's guilt.

During his opening statement Tuesday, lawyer Winston McKesson said, "You will hear no evidence that [Trone] planned this with his son. That he instructed his son to do this or he egged him on. They will have evidence that my client did help his son cover this up. We're not disputing that. What we're saying is the gunman acted alone."

"This is a horrible thing. It is. Somebody should pay. They should. But focus on what is not there. Where is the evidence that these people sat down and planned this?" the attorney added. "Where is the evidence that my client gave his son the gun? Where is the evidence that my client planted this in his son's head? Where is the evidence that my client instructed his son to commit cold-blooded murder?"

McKesson contends that Trone is guilty as an accessory after the fact.

Defense lawyer David Haas argued that there's insufficient evidence that Jones informed Trone about PnB Rock's whereabouts.

Haas argued that the rapper and his fiancée Stephanie Sibounheuang drew significant notice as they strolled from their white Mercedes to the entrance of Roscoe's "wearing about half a million dollars in jewelry, sparkling in the sun."

In discussing the conspiracy charge, he emphasized the need of proving his client's alignment of intentions with Trone.

"All of this is guesswork, all guesswork, and when you can't put your finger on specific words or specific actions, we call that a finding of not guilty," he explained.

PNB Rock, born Rakim Allen, was killed when a robbery turned violent at the Roscoe's location where he was enjoying a meal with his fiancée on Sept. 12, 2022.

A deadly shooting occurred after an attacker demanded the jewelry the Philadelphia-born rapper and Sibounheuang were wearing. Tensions escalated, resulting in a struggle and gunfire.

PnB Rock died of his gunshot wounds. He was 30 years old.
