Selena Gomez has set the record straight amid speculations that she's gotten plastic surgery.
On Saturday, the 32-year-old singer and actress Gomez responded to a 2023 TikTok video uploaded by Marissa Barrionuevo, a plastic surgery physician assistant known for her educational videos about various aesthetic procedures.
"Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of [a] flare up," Gomez wrote. "I have Botox. That's it."
"Leave me alone," she added.
People suggested that the word "stripes" in Gomez's comment was an autocorrect for "steroids."
In her 2023 video, the creator did not speculate on what procedures Gomez may have undergone. Instead, Barrionuevo told her followers she did not know "what to attribute any of these changes to" as she compared old and recent photos of the singer.
"I think she's been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don't think it's fair to speculate whether or not she's gotten cosmetic things done," the TikTok user said. "At the end of the day, let's just leave her be."
Barrionuevo later apologized in a follow-up video for any hurt feelings her previous post may have caused after seeing Gomez's comment.
"Although I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I am sorry this upset you," the plastic surgery assistant wrote in her caption.
The Rare Beauty founder commented once more on Barrionuevo's video, writing, "I love you."
"Not about you. I just get sad sometimes," Gomez added.
Gomez has always been vocal about her struggles with body shaming and mental health, especially since disclosing her lupus diagnosis in 2015.
She explained in the Apple TV+ series "Dear" last year that her medication for the autoimmune disorder causes her weight to fluctuate frequently. She said that people had long been trying to tear her down and immediately latched on to the changes in her body.
