Tupac Shakur's family has hired a legal team to investigate the claims that Sean "Diddy" Combs may have played a role in his tragic murder in 1996, according to a new report.
This accusation stems from Duane "Keefe D" Davis, a former Los Angeles gang leader who has been charged with Tupac's murder. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Allegations have been made against Keefe D for allegedly masterminding the drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of Shakur at the age of 25 in Las Vegas.
The Diddy accusation recently resurfaced when Keefe D submitted a plea for bail reconsideration. In response, Clark County prosecutors opposed the request, contending that Keefe D should stay in custody due to the prior allegation involving the Bad Boy Records mogul.
Unnamed insiders told TMZ that Tupac's remaining family members have enlisted the help of attorneys Alex Spiro and Christopher Clore and a dedicated group of investigators to look into the claim that Diddy allegedly offered $1 million to Keefe D and his associates for the murder of Tupac.
Diddy has never been a suspect in Tupac's fatal shooting, and the claims linking him to the rapper's death remain unverified. The hip-hop mogul also previously denied any involvement in the Tupac case.
However, the sources claimed that the late rapper's family reportedly suspects there may be some truth to the claim involving Diddy and is actively working with their team to gather enough evidence to implicate him.
If any evidence implicating Diddy emerges, it will reportedly be promptly submitted to the authorities. If no such evidence is found, Tupac's relatives will weigh the possibility of pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit, according to the insiders.
In the latest court filing in the Tupac murder case, Diddy was referenced a total of 77 times, per The Sun, though he remains uninvolved in the investigation.
The legal documents included a record of Keefe D's conversation with law enforcement in 2009, in which he claimed that Diddy allegedly proposed covering the costs of the fatal clash amid a long-standing feud with Marion "Suge" Knight, who was in the car with Tupac on the night of the shooting.
In a statement to investigators, as documented in court records, Keefe D claimed that Diddy allegedly wanted Suge killed, stating, "I would give anything for that dude's head."
Prosecutors wrote in a footnote, "[Keefe D] has asserted publicly that he only told on himself and wasn't trying to provide evidence against anyone else in his conversations with police."
"However, this statement belies this claim, as he suggested that Sean Combs paid Eric Von Martin a million dollars for the killings as well as offered to set up a surreptitious phone call with Terrence Brown, the driver, who, at the time, was still alive," they added.
The prosecution's submission reportedly contained details of an interview Keefe D gave for a BET documentary in 2017. The former gang member hinted during the interview that Diddy was linked to Tupac's death.
