U.S. Launches Air Strikes on Al Qaeda's Khorasan Group in Syria Before They Could Launch 'Major Attacks' on Western Targets

Early Tuesday morning, U.S. troops were joined by several Arab countries in the launch of airstrikes against the Islamic State group situated in Syria.

This attack was aimed at the leaders of ISIL, who have targeted and terrorized local people and Westerners who are situated within their reach. The United States also led an attack against jihadists in Al Qaeda's Khorasan group because information indicates it was on the verge of carrying out "major attacks" against the West.

According to Lt. Gen. William Mayville, director of operations for the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, American forces pounded Khorasan targets in Syria with Tomahawk cruise missiles to counter the mounting threat posed by the group.

"Intelligence reports indicated that the group was in the final stages of plans to execute major attacks against Western targets and potentially the U.S. homeland," Mayville told reporters at a news conference Tuesday.

American forces carried out eight air strikes against the Khorasan militants with more than 40 Tomahawk missiles being launched from ships in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. According to Mayville, this group of jihadists was laying down roots in Syria with the intent to attack Western targets at a later date.

Stopping them in their proverbial tracks was of utmost importance and the military seems to believe our forces accomplished quite a bit today.

Do you support the U.S. attacking targets overseas with the use of air strikes? At first President Barack Obama had said there would be no boots on the ground, but then a week after making that statement he seemed to tip-toe around it, leaving some to wonder if that is what is coming next.
