The Latin Grammy nominations were revealed to the world on Tuesday (Billboard) and once again Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 dominated, bringing in nine nominations, mostly tied to its 2014 release MultiViral.
Some of the highlight nominations for the group include album of the year, record of the year (for the track "Respira el Momento") and song of the year (for "Ojos color sol"). The nine nominations are almost a step-down for the group, which earned ten nominations during 2011 following the release of its album Entren Los Que Quieran. Calle 13 member Eduardo Cabra actually got ten nomination however thanks to an additional nod for his production work on Jorge Drexler's album Bailar en La Cueva.
Calle is almost a constant at the Latin Grammys thanks to its firebrand style. The group was named Best New Artist during 2006 and has taken home the Best Urban Music Album trophy in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011...in other words, every year its been nominated. The group has also won Album of The Year twice, in 2009 and 2011.
Producer Andréa Castro earned eight nominations, much of which involved his work with Carlos Vives (who was last year's big winner) who also got six nominations for his album Más + Corazón Profundo. Among performers perhaps the most surprising nominee was Enrique Iglesias, who received five nods alongside Descemer Bueno for their hit single "Bailando." This marks, believe it or not, the first time Iglesias has ever received a Latin Grammy nomination.
This year is the 15th anniversary of the Latin Grammys. The actual ceremony will be broadcast on November 20.
