The Daily Show: Steal My Girl
The clip that has Directioners up in arms comes from a bit about "the next big terrorist threat." After joking about new groups "Al Kill'ya All" and "Al aFuq U'up," whose attacks include mind control and exploding Starbucks gift cards during pumpkin spice latte season, Williams made a crack about a new terrorist "supergroup."
"Just as you were talking, a new terrorist group formed with one member each from ISIS, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel," she joked. "They like to hijack planes, Jon, and take them to Cuba. They're really taking it old school. Very vintage."
Two days after the sketch aired, Directioners got wind of the joke (apparently the demographic for 1D fans and The Daily Show) doesn't line up much, and the fandom got very vocal and angry on Twitter, coming to the defense of Malik, even though he was not mentioned by name.
Using the hashtage #TheDailyShowGoneTooFar, Directioners shared an outpour of support for Malik and some even called for The Daily Show's cancellation.
Malik himself and The Daily Show have yet to respond to the viral hashtag or racism accusations.
