Firefly Music Festival Teams with Coachella Organizers, Aims for Two Weekends Beginning in 2016

The Firefly Music Festival has found a nice music festival niche in Delaware and it's been fairly successful during its first three years. Now organizers are hoping to convert into a two weekend event, not during 2015 but for 2016 according to Dancing Astronaut.

The event announced that it was entering a partnership with the Goldenvoice promotions company last week. Goldenvoice knows a little something about not only running two weekend festivals, but running wildly successful two weekend festivals, such as Coachella.

It's too late to make those rapid changes in planning for 2015 unfortunately, as the festival has already locked down host Dover International Speedway for the weekend of June 18 through 21. But the racetrack is definitely down for a second weekend in the future.

"Having Goldenvoice on board accelerates those discussions," said Mike Tatoian, chief operating officer of the Dover International Speedway.

The 2014 version of the event was headlined by the Foo Fighters and Jack Johnson, as well as being one of many music festivals to draw in Outkast for a performance.

Those acts sound pretty excellent to us but apparently the Firefly festival is hoping to draw in even bigger acts (although we're not sure who they had in mind).

"If there is an offer going out to an act for Coachella, they can partner that with a Firefly offer now. There's a lot of benefit to going in there as one big offer," said festival director Greg Bostrom. "If there's anyone who can pull a band out of retirement and get the big act, it's been Coachella, so we can only benefit from having them on our side."
