Metallica's 'One' Covered by Musician on Guzheng, a Chinese Instrument [LISTEN]

Guzheng player Michelle Kwan took on Metallica's "One" with her traditional Chinese instrument recently, and the result is an intense plucking cover that would make Kirk Hammett proud.

The guzheng is a harp-like instrument with what looks to be a lot more strings than a guitar. Kwan, whose only other video consists of a Guns N' Roses cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine," is a complete marvel to watch (see below). She uses every finger on her right hand to recreate the signature melodies from the 1989 classic, but the climax comes when the musician dives into Hammett's solo at the 3:13 mark, trading in heavy metal shred for classical shimmer.

Another talented musician showed off his French horn chops recently with a cover of OutKast's "Hey Ya."

Metallica were recently named one of the headliners for the U.S. edition of Rock in Rio, which will take place in Las Vegas for two weekends in May. Taylor Swift, Linkin Park and No Doubt will be the other acts to play on the main stage. The band also announced that it would reissue its 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster for its 10th anniversary.

Now, let's check the comments section for some reactions to Kwan's performance:

James Pike: "Marry me?"

NOISEf7: "wow....made me like metallica for a short moment, pretty good."

kertzey: "this is so orgasmic..."

Markus Wolff: "The Guzheng needs to be used in metal more often."

I am a Pi Rho: "So great. Can I be that one redneck to request 'Free Bird?'"
