Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) Joins 'Magic Mike XXL' Cast: '3005' Rapper Returns to Acting Roots

If you've ever wanted to see Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover) strip down and haven't been to one of his intense live shows, you will be in luck in the new year. The "3005" rapper/actor has been added to the cast of the upcoming film Magic Mike XXL.

Today (Sept. 30), the full cast list and synopsis was released for the sequel to the sexy 2012 film Magic Mike. Glover is one of several new actors in the sequel, according to Entertainment Weekly. He joins Elizabeth Banks, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Strahan as a newbie to the franchise.

Of course, Magic Mike XXL will also feature some familiar faces. Channing Tatum is set to return as Mike, with Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Gabriel Iglesias and more also reprising their roles.

Gambino's exact role in Magic Mike XXL has not been announced, but the film's synopsis has left him a lot of room for various roles. Read the official description of the film below:

"Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, the film finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blowout performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways."

Though the Magic Mike XXL casting news may seem a bit of a surprise to newer Gambino/Glover fans, the emcee has a lengthy filmography. His previous roles include Troy Barnes on Community, Jason from Mystery Team and a short stint as Lena Dunham's love interest on Girls.
