DJ Equipment Causes Bomb Scare, Shuts Down Hollywood Freeway near Universal Studios

Families and tourists who may have been diverted from their trip to Universal Studios Los Angeles on Wednesday have two issues to thank: The lingering paranoia of the post-9/11 era...and some disc jockey equipment. A bomb squad was called to investigate the latter on October 2, according to YourEDM.com.

The initial investigation began when police were called to the site of an accident on the southbound portion of the Hollywood Freeway near Universal Studios. A van and a sedan had been involved in the collision and we have to imagine some serious damage was done to the cars...or maybe LAPD routinely search the trunks of vehicles involved in accidents. We're assuming—giving the police the benefit of the doubt—that they saw the equipment scattered on the ground and got concerned. Admittedly, if someone is using a car bomb, it makes sense that they'd be in a collision as well.

After calling the bomb squad and diverting traffic in both directions, the authorities realized that it was just music equipment. Assuming again—again because the LAPD didn't release too many details—the equipment involved probably wasn't anything as obvious as an amp or a turntable. We don't think a mixer looks much like a bomb either but at least it has buttons.

No word on whether the DJ himself was retained for questioning during this whole process. Again, he probably would've set the record straight before this became a highway-shutdown fiasco.

Just imagine what would've happened if Skrillex's tour trucks were involved in the collision: The LAPD might have assumed, based on the equipment recovered, that the Independence Day aliens were building their city destroying ships on the ground now.
