The Grammys are notorious for snubbing hip-hop artists. Even the winners in hip-hop categories don't seem to acknowledge the best artists in the genre. Although we won't know who will be snubbed at the the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for another few months, Drake has handed out his own hip-hop awards on Instagram: The #HoodGrammys. Among the winners were Bobby Shmurda, Rich Gang, and ILoveMakonnen.
The Toronto rapper created several categories, then awarded his top choice of the year with a "Hood Grammy."
Shmurda's "Hot N***a" won "Vocal Performance of the Year," Rae Sremmurd's "No Flex Zone" tied with Rich Gang's "Lifestyle" (featuring Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug) for "Best Performance by A Group or Duo." OG Maco won "Best All Around Turn Up" for "U Guessed It," PARTYNEXTDOOR took home "Mixtape of The Year" and new OVO signee ILoveMakonnen took the prize for "Best Latin Club Anthem" for their hit "Tuesday."
In related news, Drake just surpassed The Beatles in terms of total Hot 100 singles. His verse on ILoveMakonnen's "Tuesday" earned him his 72nd appearance on the Hot 100. This puts him in the No. 8 spot for most entries overall, behind Elvis, Lil Wayne, James Brown, Jay Z, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and the Glee cast.
